Can you believe some Democratic operative started a rumor that McCain aided the NV while in the Hanoi Hilton?
Whoever started the rumor that John McCain aided the North Vietnamese when he was in prison is an awful person. That mens honor and resolve through those years is a testament to all that is good about our military and our country.
Even if he did aid them, which I don’t believe, you get tortured for 5 1/2 years by those people and not crack.
He was offered a chance to go home several times, because the Vietcong wanted to exploit the fact that his father was a famous Admiral. He refused on the same grounds each time.
First in, first out. He said he would only leave if the men that came in before him went home with him. The Vietcong would not go for that, so he stayed for several more years.
McCain is done because of Michigan. I love the ignorance of the general public.
McCain made a mistep on the jobs issue and it’s Romney’s home state.
I mean Christ, even Mondale won his home state.
Before Eisenhower ran for office, Gen. MacArthur attempted to run for President but was quickly taken out of the mix. He had too many enemies that were terrified of him. Mostly, GOP Fat Cats. He would have been unstoppable. He would have done far more than Gen. Eisenhower to help the ordinary people as he did in the Philippines and, after the war, in Japan. He rebuilt the Japanese society with help of several economic advisers. That is what he believed in. Truman hated him and the feeling was mutual. Politics get intense and have great consequences sometimes. I was a little kid but I remember the headlines. Everybody knew what Gen. MacArthur stood for. John McCain was a naval aviator and pow but he is no MacArthur nor Eisenhower. Just a patriotic, loyal amiable guy but his military accomplishments were not those of a great admiral or general.
Now Gen. Schwarzkopf? Well, Bush followed the advice to cut the first Iraq war short and return home.
Gen. Schwarzkopf later said he implored the President to drive on to Baghdad. But Saddam was allowed to live and regroup and here we are.
Bush II took us back to complete what would have been easy in the first Iraq War. This is now vastly more costly. Far more Americans killed this second time, unmeasurable expense. No end in sight and a worldwide embarrassment like Viet Nam. This could be the last straw that that breaks the economy and trigger more than a recession. Awesome!
