Decorating with the McQueen Mania

Are you redecorating your child’s room anytime soon? If so, Lightning McQueen has joined the many Disney characters you can choose from for your design theme. Whether you want just a dab of the Cars color, or a full splash of the Radiator Springs fever, there are a lot of materials to tickle your child’s fancy.

However, it would be good to check out a few things before you go on a shopping spree. Planning is essential and one of the considerations is the size of the room. If it is a limited space, it would be best to pick a color motif on the lighter side of the spectrum so as to give the illusion of space. You can opt for the neutral tones white or cream, or picking from McQueen’s palette, lean towards the light blue shade. If you have an expansive space to play around, then you are freer to experiment with the bolder hues.

Having taken your pick of color, the next important step is to determine your child’s preference, since he or she will be the one sticking it out until the next redecoration takes place. Is there a favorite character in mind, like Lightning, Sally or Mater? Will the room be for a toddler or a preschooler, in which case mommy or daddy will have to make most of the decisions, or will it be for a young child’s room where the final user can have much say about the choices?

The size of the area and the child’s taste are two important considerations. Be sure to cover these and the rest will fall into place quite easily. For instance, the age of the child will determine the size of the furniture coming into the room. Good news is, these McQueen comforter sets come in a variety of sizes that will fit a toddler crib, a twin, even a queen-sized bed. Matching sheets and pillows are also available. So as not to inundate the room with the same pattern, it would be good to combine prints and plains. Lightning and Sally curtains or window valances will go well against a monochrome wall, and pillows and comforters of the same material will look great against a blue or red sheet.

Other accessories can be decked in well-identified corners to spread the theme across the room. A McQueen lamp can be set near the bed or on a study table, and a Cars wastebasket can be discreetly placed in a corner. Removable wall stickers can be placed on the door or on cabinets and drawers. While these creative ideas are flowing, you might consider purchasing a Cars printed fabric so you can extend your do-it-yourself project to custom-made pillows or seat covers.

These materials do not come cheap but with planning and a little online research for discounted items, redecorating with McQueen need not bust your budget.
