There’s no doubt about it. You can easily purchase a watch for next to nothing. In fact, the variety that is available for prices that will tempt even the most discerning shopper is nothing short of mind-boggling. But for all that is available in branded, unbranded and replica watches, Gucci watches are not watches to easily pass up. In fact, it’s hard to think of Gucci watches as just watches. They are more like elegant timepieces.

Today’s Gucci draws on a rich history. Back in the early 1920s, an Italian by the name of Guccio Gucci returned to Italy after having lived in London for several years. During his time in London, he worked at the Savoy Hotel, clearly one of the most prestigious and exclusive venues in London and indeed, in Europe. It was here that he acquired his taste for high quality, exclusivity and elegance. When he returned to Italy, he opened a store specializing initially in leather suitcases. It went on to become one of the most famous and respected names in the world of fashion accessories and luxury goods.

Watches soon joined the growing range of these Italian-designed luxury items that were sought out by society’s rich and famous. Among them were Princess Grace of Monaco and members of the British royal family and more recent celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan. This is not surprising as Gucci continued to pursue high fashion standards along with quality and exclusivity.

These watches are made using the finest materials and cutting edge quartz technology, namely Swiss. The best of Italian leather is used in straps. Highly polished and resistant metals are used in the bands and bracelets, notably stainless steel, gold and silver and carefully cut diamond and sapphire crystals are used in the inner workings of these elegant timepieces.

There is no doubt that design rates highly in Gucci’s priorities. Its watches are always elegant, yet versatile in the range of purposes and people they are designed to serve. Day and evening functions, business and casual wear, sports enthusiasts and funky and free-spirited are all catered to. It is not ‘standard fare’ with any of these. You get uniquely designed timepieces and they do come at a price. Expect to pay no less than a few hundred dollars for one of these.

The range of watches that have appeared in Gucci stores and been promoted in on and offline magazines and websites has been well paced. Not wanting to drop its standards, the company has carefully released its watches in batches or series. Each series is characterized by a design theme into which individuality is built using a select range of watch-face colors.

Variety in the material and texture of watch straps, bands or bracelets caters for individual tastes that revolve around a common theme. It is always a pleasure to see how Gucci watches retain their elegance even when using materials such as rubber and out of the norm textures and colors.

The brand name, Gucci, is heavily steeped in a history and culture of fine, exclusive design, quality and fashion sense. Its watches are well endowed with this rich historical and cultural background. It is a long history as far as fashion is concerned. The interlocking double G logo which can be found on all Gucci watches and other fashion accessories could well stand for Gucci Greatness! It seems to symbolize a great tradition of high taste and exclusive design. It’s for this reason that it’s hard to think of Gucci watches as just a ladies or man’s watch. They are remarkable timepieces in every sense of the word.
