How do Western men walk around and resist temptation?

The women in your country walk around half naked i believe this is also the reason for so many rapes in the USA, these women should dress modestly like Muslim women and then this problem will go away.

You may mean well, but I’m afraid to say that this question does no favours for Islam. Nothing in the Qur’an or Sunnah indicates that the hijab is supposed to act as a preventative measure against rape. NOTHING AT ALL. That is a modern interpretation found in the works of people like Mawdudi that has somehow managed to become popularised.

The Qur’an clearly indicates that the purpose of hijab is about modesty before God and all of creation. As I’m sure you know, the same applies to men. Men have an awra too which they must keep covered – something which is sadly missed in all the criticisms of Islam. The Prophet urged modesty even when completely alone.

By asking this question, it characterises Muslim men as animalistic creatures utterly unable to restrain their lusts. That is completely distant from the character of the Prophetic teaching. The purpose of fasting and abstaining from sex during Ramadan is precisely to teach people learn to master their base, animal desires so they’re not controlled by them, and thereby elevate the angelic parts of their natures.

“O children of Adam, We have provided you with garments to cover your bodies, as well as for luxury. But the best garment is the garment of righteousness. These are some of God’s signs, that they may take heed.” (Al-A`raf 7:26)

Thus, in a properly functioning Muslim court, a rapist can be convicted using the same sort of criteria such as DNA in a Western court, and in those cases the punishment would be determined by whatever is normal for that jurisdiction. In cases where there are 4 witnesses to the rape, the rapist receives the death penalty. The idea that women who are raped should be punished under Islamic Law is a gross distortion of the teachings seen in the classical texts.

The idea that the God of Islam literally has a masculine or feminine aspect is completely erroneous. In fact, to hold such a belief would take one outside the fold of Islam. In Islam, God is completely transcendent above the idea of gender. The fact that the male pronoun is used is simply the nature of the Arabic language. In the same way, qualities generally associated with femininty feature often in the Islamic texts.

One of the core attributes of God in Islam is al-Rahman, which denotes superlative compassion, mercy and love. The root word is r-h-m, which is the same root used for the word ‘womb’. The Islamic texts are replete with allusions to the fact that God’s love is like the love of a mother for her child.

“On the day that He created the heavens and the earth, God created a hundred rahmas, each of which is as great as the space which lies between heaven and earth. And He sent one rahma down to earth, by which a mother has rahma for her child.” (Muslim, Tawba, 21)

Islamic mystical poetry regularly uses the idea of yearning for Layla as an allegory for the relationship between human beings and God. Layla is the celestial Beloved, a female name which means ‘night’, veiled and unknown from the world, but one who brings forth life and whose beauty is so astounding that once revealed, it dazzles the lover.
