Have you ever had leather shoes emit a foul odor after wearing them?
I’ve got some Rockport leather shoes. I’ve never had a problem with them until recently. After wearing them one day, I removed them and they stunk really bad. I don’t have foot odor that bad, but I was thinking it might be the leather.
yes! I have had the exactly same happen to me.
I am guessing the odor is the result of some bacterial process (could also be fungal)? In my experiences, this happened rather quickly (the shoes are fine and worn every day for a long time and then one day they definately start to really stink … it is not a gradual change) so it does not seem like it is just buildup of sweat and odor over time.
they have not been wet and airing them out does not solve the problem. fortunately this has usually only happened with older shoes so I could get rid of them when they “went bad” … but never thought of disinfecting them and see if that made a difference. I would try some mild disinfectant like Lysol spray … at least worth a shot if you have no other suggestions
