What are some differences and similarities between USMC Metal Workers and Navy Steel Workers (SEABEES)?
There are no similarities. The SEABEEs are construction experts. They build things and have the skills to do so. The Marine Corps does NOT have “metal workers” as a MOS. We have “metal smiths” who work on aircraft to rebuild sections of the plane that was hit by ground fire or accident. We have Combat Engineers who use pre-built bridging systems to negoiate obstacles. We have Fleet Service Support Group Marines who rebuild tanks, trucks, and vehicles to include basic welding.
If you want a career that involves basic construction labor – go SEABEES. They often travel to where Marines are located and build stuctures for us.
If you want a career that involves blowing things up and then doing basic rebuilding (often with help from the SEABEEs), go Marine Corps.
